    • All medications should be in liquid form or dissolved in water or an appropriate liquid substance
    • For G-button blockage leading to inability to administer medications or feeding, attempt to flush the G-button with water to clear blockage. Flush with 10-15 ml water.  Check for fluid restriction in patient being treated prior to attempting
    • If unable to flush the g-button, pull back on the syringe, hold for 10 seconds, then let go of the plunger of the syringe. Do this several times and then attempt flushing with water again
    • If the above actions do not clear the tube, attempt to flush with pineapple juice unless the patient is a renal or diabetic patient. For a renal patient, use cranberry juice. For a diabetic patient, use sugar free juice
    • Never put any object into the tube to unclog it
    • If the patient is having significant pain, do not continue flushing. Go to the Emergency Center
