Humidification

It is ideal to keep the air entering the trach tube heated and humidified to avoid mucus plugs and keep the stoma healthy.

This can be accomplished with either a heat and moister exchanger (HME) also referred to as an “artificial nose” or a humidified trach collar (HTC).
